What is Direct Primary Care?

Direct primary care is a model where instead of using health insurance, you pay a low monthly membership that gives you unlimited access to your primary care team — whenever and however you need us.

With your membership, you’ll enjoy:

  • Unlimited visits — in person or via telehealth

  • Same-day or next-business day appointments

  • Direct access to your doctor — no call centers, no waiting weeks for an appointment. Call, email, or text your doctor directly.

  • Deeply discounted labs, imaging, and medications — often at wholesale prices

  • Transparent, affordable pricing — no surprise bills, copays, deductibles. Just a single, easy to understand monthly fee.

Why No Insurance?

By skipping the middleman and working directly with you instead of insurance companies, we can:

  • Spend more time with each patient, and be available when you need us. Visits aren't rushed.

  • Focus on your health - Every medical decision is based on what's best for you, not what an insurance company will approve

  • Offer transparent, affordable pricing at a lower cost-You always know exactly what things will cost with us, and you can budget accordingly.

  • Avoid the red tape and delays that make healthcare frustrating for everyone

In short, you get better care, faster access, and honest pricing — all for a simple monthly fee. We still recommend that you have insurance if you can to cover things like specialist visits, hospital care, tests, or medications — but your primary care stays direct, simple, and patient-centered.

Isn't it more affordable to use my insurance?

It depends. If you have copayments for office visits and prescriptions or have to meet a deductible before your insurance provides coverage, you may find that direct primary care is less expensive. Also, having health insurance does not mean the same thing as having access to a doctor. Many people with insurance find they have to wait weeks to get in with their doctor. At Open Arms, we can often see you the same day.

If you do not have insurance, a membership with us may cover many of your health care needs for far less than in a traditional clinic. For example, in CA, an urgent care visit will run about $195. Our monthly membership which offers as many visits as you need, is much less than just one urgent care visit.
